วันนี้ได้ notebook มาใหม่ ของ asus รุ่น Pro36S ซึ่งมีบริการ on-site และ ตามคู่มือบอกว่า มี express gate ที่สามารถเปิดโปรแกรมบางตัวได้โดยไม่จำเป็นนต้องเข้าน WINDOWS แต่เจ้าปุ่ม express gate บนตัวเครื่องลองกฏแล้วไม่มีอะไรเกิดขึ้น ก็พบว่าเราต้องติดตั้ง เจ้า express gate ลงไปก่อน แต่ความยากของมันอยู่ที่ การจะติดตั้ง express gate ได้นั้น partition ต้องเป็น EFI  ค้นไปค้นมาก็ไปเจอ บทความนี้เข้า

Crap, I just finished writing a lengthy post about how to install EFI. In a nutshell, you have to reserve at least 1Gb of unallocated and unpartitioned free space on the end of the hard disk. Boot up from an Ubuntu flashdrive and run:
sudo cfdisk

Select the free space at the end, and choose New. Create a new partition using the remaining free space. Set the partition type to EF by choosing Type and entering EF when it asks you what kind of partition you want. Make the new partition bootable by selecting Bootable, and then Write to finish applying your partition choices. Then choose Quit to close cfdisk. You now have an EFI partition! Mind you, once you've created this partition, Gparted will no longer be able to start. You can still use Disk Utility for formatting purposes, but I've had problems getting it to create logical drives within an Extended partition, possibly because of interference from the EFI partition. I had to use the windows Disk Management to create my logical drives.

Anyways, once you have your EFI partition, you can run the Express Gate installer and it should now complete. Don't bother running the AsusSetup.exe in that EG folder, it does nothing except prevent you from proceeding with the EG installation if you aren't running Windows 7. The EG installer works fine on both WinXP and Win7.
